Welded Sub-Assemblies We Manufacture

Our press shop, weld shop and inspection room produce welded units for these applications:

Where a programme needs only the stamped part, we supply it as a single component. Where it needs the joined unit, we supply the sub-assembly.

Welding Processes Matched to the Joint

Our weld shop runs MIG, robotic, spot and projection welding, and the process is chosen to suit the joint, the material and the volume. Repeatable joints at production volumes are supported by purpose-built Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) that we have developed with established equipment partners for speed of operation and process consistency. Share your joint callouts and weld specifications with the drawing and we will confirm the route as part of the feasibility response.

Why Tolerance Stack-Up Decides Assembly Quality

When several parts are joined into one unit, each part's variation and each joint's distortion add together. A bracket that is within tolerance on its own can still miss its mounting position once it is welded into a sub-assembly. We manage this by reviewing the build at the drafting stage, welding in repeatable cells and checking finished sub-assemblies in our standard room with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), a Profile Projector and a Faro Arm before dispatch.

Our Manufacturing Process: From Drawing to Dispatch

  • Drawing Review: Review the drawing and bill of materials for manufacturability.
  • Tooling Development: Coordinate production tooling design and development using SolidWorks and CAD/CAM, in collaboration with your engineering team.
  • Pressing Form components in the press shop through controlled press operations.
  • Welding: Use MIG, robotic, spot or projection welding, depending on the joint requirements.
  • Surface Treatment: Process finished sub-assemblies on the PTCED line or conveyorised powder-coating line as specified in the drawing.
  • Inspection: Verify critical dimensions using CMM, Profile Projector and Faro Arm equipment, as required, before release.

Consolidating Several Parts Into One Sub-Assembly

Moving from loose parts to a welded sub-assembly takes fit-and-weld work off your own line and reduces the number of part numbers you receive, store and track. It also gives you one supplier answerable for the joined unit. If you currently buy the components of an assembly from separate vendors, send us the drawings and we will tell you whether they can be consolidated.

The same process covers brake, chassis, engine, two-wheeler, tractor and off-highway programmes, so procurement teams can consolidate several commodities with one audited vendor.

What to Include in Your Welded Sub-Assemblies RFQ

To assess manufacturing feasibility and prepare an accurate quotation, share as much of the following information as available:

  • Part drawings and CAD data: 2D drawings, 3D models and assembly drawings showing component interfaces and joint locations.
  • Material specifications: Material grade, thickness and applicable material standards.
  • Welding requirements: Specified joint types, weld locations, weld symbols and any customer-defined acceptance criteria.
  • Dimensional requirements: Critical dimensions, tolerances, GD&T and fitment requirements for the finished assembly.
  • Surface finish: PTCED, powder coating or other specified finishing requirements, where applicable.
  • Production volumes: Estimated annual quantities, expected ramp-up and recurring order requirements.
  • Quality and approval requirements: Applicable inspection plans, validation requirements and PPAP/APQP documentation, where required by the customer.
  • Project timelines and delivery location: Target SOP date, sample requirements and intended delivery schedule.

Our engineering team can review the available information to assess feasibility, identify tooling and process requirements, and clarify any additional details needed for quotation.

Share your drawings and requirements through our Business Enquiry page to start a sourcing discussion.

FAQ

Share 2D drawings or 3D CAD models, material specifications, welding and finishing requirements, expected annual volumes, quality documentation requirements and target timelines. Our engineering team can review the information and identify any additional inputs required for feasibility assessment.

Presco-Mec can review customer drawings and manufacturing requirements to assess feasibility. Confirm the availability and scope of prototype development, tooling, sample validation and PPAP/APQP support with the engineering team before publishing a more specific commitment.

Quality verification should be based on the approved drawing, applicable weld acceptance criteria and the customer's inspection plan. Confirm which dimensional reports, weld inspection records and other quality documents Presco-Mec can provide for the specific programme.

Often, yes. Send us the drawings and bill of materials, and we will confirm whether the parts can be pressed, welded, finished and inspected as one sub-assembly, and what tooling it needs.

We support production tooling design and development using SolidWorks and CAD/CAM, in coordination with your engineering team. Depending on project requirements, tooling development and manufacture may involve our internal capabilities and external equipment or tooling partners. We also deploy purpose-built Special Purpose Machines (SPMs), developed with established equipment partners, to support repeatable joint quality at production volumes.

Finished sub-assemblies can be processed on our PTCED (cathode electro deposition) line or our conveyorised powder-coating line, depending on the corrosion protection and finish specified in the drawing.

Yes. Our in-house tool design and development, combined with CMM-based inspection, supports a programme from first samples through to series production.

Yes. Where a programme needs only the stamped part we supply it as a single component, and where it needs the joined unit we supply the sub-assembly. Both come from the same press, weld and inspection process.

Our IATF 16949:2016, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 certificates are shown on our Quality Profile page. We are also D&B D-U-N-S registered (65-006-5357), and our customer list and manufacturing locations are published on the website.
